MAKING THE CONNECTIONS:
PROJECT LINUS AND OTHER COMMUNIY SERVICE PROJECTS

| DESCRIPTION | Students make fleece blankets for Project Linus and construct an angel from a dishcloth. |
| TIME REQUIRED | One 30-minute session 3 times per week
Day 1: Introduce Project Linus. Students research the Web site for Project Linus (www.projectlinus.org) online. Students write a short summary of what they found out about Project Linus. Day 2: Students look at various types of blankets on display and are given printed instructions on making a fleece blanket. Students choose their fabric and prepare the fabric for cutting. Day 3: Students cut the four squares from the corners and cut the edges to prepare for tying the blanket. Day 4: Students tie the blankets. Day 5: Students write an instructional paragraph detailing how they made their fleece blankets. A Project Linus representative is to visit, and blankets will be presented at that time. |

| TEACHER TIPS | 1. Contact Project Linus representatives. 2. Recruit donations from community resources. 3. Recruit blanket makers and quilters to demonstrate various methods of construction. |
