Funds for Community-Based Technology and Learning Centers

Microsoft Unlimited Potential Grants provide Community-Based Technology and Learning Center (CTLC) organizations with funding to support technology training programs ranging from learning basic computer skills to using advanced business productivity applications. Donations of cash, software, curricula, and technical expertise enable individuals to learn about technology and gain the information technology skills needed for employment in the IT field or other industry sectors. Grants are made through Microsoft's U.S. and international subsidiaries, which work closely with local organizations to identify CTLCs where IT skills training is a primary focus. Funding decisions are made in March and October of each year. For more information click here.

Funds for Sports Related Afterschool Programs

The Bowerman Track-Renovation Program, sponsored by Nike, provide matching funds of up to $50,000 for the construction or refurbishment of running tracks. The program distributes a total of $200,000 each year.

The Nikebiz website outlines those who may apply as any community-based, youth-oriented organizations that can demonstrate a need for running-track construction or refurbishment and that are tax-exempt under Sections 501(c)(3) or 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Grant recipients must provide residents of surrounding neighborhoods with access to the track, and grant funds must be at least partially matched by other contributors by an agreed-upon deadline. Visit the Nikebiz website for more information on this great opportunity.

Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy

Many afterschool program sites focus on improving student literacy skills through books and reading programs. This is of great importance here in Texas considering the growing number of children whose second language is English.

The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy supports family-oriented literacy programs and is accepting applications for grants of up to $65,000 each to support literacy or pre-literacy instructional programs for children, reading programs for parents or primary caregivers, and intergenerational reading activities. Additional information is available at the Barbara Bush Foundation website.

William T. Grant Foundation

Youth socialize in any setting but especially in engaging, informal and inclusive environments like afterschool programs. The AED Center for Youth Development and Policy Research would like to make your program aware of the William T. Grant Foundation initiative of up to $1.5-million (over up to four years) to fund a small group of projects which study how people ages 8 to 25 socialize. The foundation will award a total of up to $4-million per year. Additional information is available on the foundation's website.

Full proposals are due: February 22, 2007.
